Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a life-threatening accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel ran across the track right in his path

The alarming incident took place on the third circuit when track officials were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to change his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was seeing"

"I exited on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes dashing across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track track officials can be allowed to just run across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Official Investigation Underway

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is thoroughly reviewing the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was notified that debris was present on the track at the critical section of that bend" declared the FIA

"During the third lap, safety personnel were alerted and put on alert to enter the track and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy marshals were canceled and a safety warning flag was shown in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired after that point"
